Sully-Gilbert Residence

Col. Thomas Sully constructed the original portion of the house with four rooms separated by a wide hallway facing the Bogue Falaya River. In 1889, the property became the summer residence for New Orleans Mayor, Walter C. Flower, & his family. It later sold to New Orleans cotton broker, Leon Gilbert, who raised the cottage & incorporated usable space on the ground level. In recent years, it has served as a restaurant & bed & breakfast venue. In February 2024, the property was seized & went into foreclosure. There is uncertainty on how soon the property title can be resolved & the future of this historic site is unknown.
