Evangeline Parish was created on January 1, 1911 out of the lands of western St. Landry Parish. By December of that year, The Bank of Ville Platte dissolved & established a new charter as Evangeline Bank & Trust Company. In April 1913, the bank’s board of directors authorized construction of a two-story bank building. A limit was set of $18,000 for purchase of the site & construction of the bank, with an additional cap of $4,000 for furniture & fixtures. George S. Scallan, architect & contractor from Alexandria, completed construction in May 1914. It served as a bank until 1976 when it was purchased by the city & used as Ville Platte City Hall from 1978 to 2004. The building was later used by the Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club & in recent years has remained vacant. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
