The cornerstone of the Assumption Lodge No. 307 was laid on July 1, 1911, according to the ancient ceremonies of the fraternity. The building featured three offices on the ground level, an assembly hall on the second floor, & a Masonic lodge room on the top level. Emile Sundbery, a Swedish immigrant & lumber company executive, served as the first Worshipful Master of the lodge. He would later serve as state senator & Master of the Louisiana Grand Lodge. In 1954, the lodge moved to Thibodaux in Lafourche Parish. The name was changed to Walter I. Lanier Lodge No. 307 in 1979, to honor a lodge secretary who served for over thirty years. Recent storms have damaged the roof & removed the pressed metal cornice.
