The originally elevated home was built in the settlement period of Mandeville, founded by Bernard de Marigny, an important early figure in Louisiana and founder of Mandeville. In 1860-68, Mr Marigny moved from New Orleans to escape the Union occupation and be close to his sugar plantation. After his death in 1868, the building was converted to a Casino when Mandeville became a resort community of New Orleans and finally has been in the Bechac family ownership since 1916. The Lakefront in Mandeville has a long history of hurricanes and flooding and now the building is restricted from reopening due to repetitive flood damages. It must be elevated to modern flood map requirements before a permit will be issued to repair damage caused by Hurricane Ida in 2021. The most recent estimated cost of the elevation and repairs is $1.5 Million.
