Homer Lodge No. 152, F. & A.M (Free & Accepted Masons) in Homer, was chartered in 1858 and played an important role in the development of the Claiborne Parish seat. The lodge owned and operated colleges in the Homer area, which dramatically improved the level of education and offered opportunity for many young men and women in the late 1800’s. The Masons have been at their current property on the square in downtown Homer since 1922, when the third floor was added to an existing building as a lodge room. Throughout its life, the ground floor was occupied by the parish library, a general store, other restaurants, and retail establishments. Historically, the second floor was rented out as professional offices: dentists, attorneys, etc. The second floor is currently used as individual studios for local artists. The building is within the Homer Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is in need of roof, structural and elevator repairs if it is to remain a usable, viable part of the Homer Main Street District.
